Over at The Bookworm Drinketh we were discussing Cinco de Mayo snacks and drinks. Of course, we then had to chat about tequila shots or margaritas or mojitos! I figure we can have all. But here’s the snack, or maybe it’s a shot, that I’m having:
It’s dried and salted red prunes soaking in tequila. The fresher the batch, the clearer the liquid. The older the batch, the more potent the prunes! This batch has been ‘marinating’ for a couple of months (the jar was originally about three-quarters full) but you can enjoy it even after just a couple of hours. It’s often served in a shot glass and you enjoy the prune flavoured tequila and then the prune at the end.
I admit, it doesn’t look appetising, but it hits the tequila sweet spot today.

On a more serious note, the real history behind Cinco de Mayo is quite interesting. You can find a short explanation of the history behind this holiday at Over The Andes. Go check it out.

How interesting! I haven’t had prune tequila before. I’m a margarita girl and love mojitos also.
