The Nope Book Tag | Bookish Things

About two months ago Andrea, over at Andrea’s Nirvana tagged me in the Nope Book Tag.  You wouldn’t believe how many questions were on this list!!! Just click on the link above and you’ll see what I mean.  You’ll also have a chance to check out Andrea’s very cool blog.

I’ve committed a bit of a short cut and pulled out a few questions to answer.  Thanks for the assignment Andrea!  😉

NOPE. Genre: A genre you will never read.

Too afraid to read Horror.  I’m a big scared cat like that.

NOPE. Popular pairing: A “ship” you don’t support.

I wouldn’t say I don’t support it, but I never really felt it was particularly genuine: Ron and Hermione.  It made sense, kind of… but still seemed a bit ‘off’.

NOPE. Book format: Book formatting you hate and avoid buying until it comes out in a different edition

I think it’s called the mass market paperback.  You know the one… where you can hardly open up the book and when you do, it instantly cracks the spine. But it’s cheaper than the others so….

NOPE. Trope: A trope that makes you go NOPE.

Probably the love triangle, again.

NOPE. Cliche/pet peeve: A cliche or writing pet peeve that always makes you roll your eyes.

In a romance story, when there’s this out of the blue declaration of being in love.  I want to see the build up.  I want it to be blatantly obvious through actions and other words, before the MC is struck by the realization that he /she really is in love with the other person.

NOPE. Protagonist: A main character you dislike and drives you crazy.

Really was not a fan of the MC in Chocolate With a Side of Murder.

NOPE. Villain: A scary villain/antagonist you would hate to cross and would make you run in the opposite direction.

Dolores Umbridge.  ‘Nuff said!

I Tag….

If this tag, looks like one you want to do, go for it!  You can answer these seven questions or any (or all) from the full list on Andrea’s blog.

¡Happy Sunday!

  1. I totally agree with 99% of what you said!! … You lost me with the horror.. I LOVE HORROR!! Stop being a scardey cat and join the dark side!
I definitely agree with the mass market books. So gird to read with their tiny font and badly bound pages!! … But, I do love a book I can get for $7-$10!!
And Ron and Hermione…. Ya. Definitely weird. I mean, kind of cute… But, weird.

      1. Well, solving the LOOOONG problem. DON’T READ STEPHEN KING!! MOST horor books are NORMAL book length. Mr. King likes to show off how many words he knows to describe things. Lol!! Ok. New goal. Find Nina a horror. I’M ON IT!! You’ll have my answer soon! (and don’t worry, no slashers.. They’re not REALLY my jam anyways.)

  2. I felt the same way about Ron and Hermione, too!! I mean, I didn’t even want the romance in that series (I’m in the minority, I’m sure).

  3. I totally agree with all of your answers, especially the love triangle. I don’t much like horror either, but I just downloaded an eBook that’s total horror/torture and I can’t believe I’m reading it. Weird! I’m definitely adding this tag to my list! ❤ Thanks for sharing it. 😀 Have a wonderful day.

    1. Hahahahaha
I don’t mind it so much if someone is in a dead end relationship and meets ‘the one’. But I can do without the angst of two viable options and one ‘ poor’ struggling MC 😬

  4. I like Ron and Hermione but not together lol. You’re right, it was a little off. I’m a bit of a scaredy cat too haha. I blame It too. My older sister made me watch it. Smh all kinds of bad lol.
    Wonderful post!

  5. You know, now that I really think about there was something off about Ron and Hermione. I feel like there wasn’t a lot of romance but they were just put together. Maybe because they were more side characters? And man I really don’t like the teeny tiny paperbacks either, you either spread them so far they ruin the spine or have to try hard to read the words. Thanks for stopping by my blog 🙂

  6. It’s so funny…Dolores Umbridge is Public Enemy #1 compared to Lord Voldemort. I won’t read horror either; my mum saw some crazy, horror movie when I was in the womb.

  7. 100% with you on the NOPE when it comes to instalove and love triangles. They are truly the worst! I don’t know how people can stand them. That’s one of the reasons too why I moved away from YA cause it’s such a common theme and it drives me crazy. I don’t think I’ve ever read a true horror book so I’m not sure if it would scare me or not but I generally avoid the genre anyway cause it just doesn’t seem like something that has a lot of depth to it.

    1. I’ll definitely stay away from anything horror with depth! That stuff can get into your mind and freak you out. I’ve seen some of the psychological thrillers than other bloggers read and if I read them I’d probably never want to meet new people! lol

  8. I agree with most of your answers! I can’t read horror and I can’t stand most love triangles! Tho I did like Ron and Hermione and I don’t mind mass market paperbacks! (I am not great at keeping my books in good condition anyway so if its a cheap book its not my fault! and it isn’t a big deal if I make it even worse!)

  9. I am scared of horror, but I will read, I want to read one good horror. Searching. When Nicole sends you the title, let me know.
I don’t know what is Manga? Is that a genre? I haven’t read one of that. Not sure if I would read. But never say never. I probably would just to sate my curiosity
