First Impression Friday (10)

J.W. over at Storeys of Stories hosts this meme.

Taken from his introduction:

First Impression Friday will be a meme where you talk about a book that you JUST STARTED! Maybe you’re only a chapter or two in, maybe a little farther.  Based on this sampling of your current read, give a few impressions and predict what you’ll think by the end.  Did you think you’d love and ended up hating it? Or did you think you’d hate it and wound up loving it? Or were you exactly right? I think what will really make this meme a lot of fun, is linking back to it from your review to say, “Look at how wrong I was!” OR “See? I knew it all along!”

I participated in the cover reveal for this book over a year ago and really loved the cover and felt drawn into the story. From the blurb and extract that I’d read though, I didn’t quite feel ready to read something so emotional so I opted out of the review tour. But the story stayed with me and I read a couple of reviews, which were positively glowing. Eventually I bought the book and promised myself I’d read it when the mood struck. The other night I was in a broody state of mind and decided I wanted to finally get into this book.

You know how some books promise you emotional, heart-breaking reads… well, this one does and it delivers. A few tears slid down my cheeks as I read the first couple of chapters. By 13% in I had to close up and get to sleep, but instead falling asleep I just ended up crying some more!

Anyway, needless to say I think this is going to be a great read one way or another. I’ll probably have to pace myself through it. The beginning hit hard, I hope my poor heart gets a little reprieve at some points during the reading! I predict at least 4 stars.
