Thanks so much to Rachel of Rachel’s Random Resources for a chance to be on this blog tour. Welcome to my stop.

A forgotten past…

Could pave the way to forever!

When I saw this story was set in Somaliland and Addis Ababa and featured characters from Somaliland, I was intrigued. Then I thought about the amnesia plot and was even more interested. Also, my being a sucker for second-chance romance stories certainly helped seal the deal. I’m glad I stumbled across this little gem and decided to give it a shot.

I could describe Second Chance to Wear His Ring as a ‘sweet’ story… and in fact, that’s the perfect adjective for this tale. The characters are delightful, the setting is amazing and the storyline had me saying, “Aww” a couple times.

Let’s talk setting. Hana Sheik describes the majestic beauty of both Somaliland and Addis Ababa as Amal and Manny travel the regions. There aren’t paragraph upon paragraph of contrived descriptions… nope. We get thoughtfully constructed, interesting tidbits ideally suited to the situations and events. There are also a few details about daily life and political climate. These are all very well woven into the narrative and used to further build upon the main characters. Descriptions of foods, clothing and customs are all handled in this way.

The amnesia storyline is well-written and never over-dramatised. It certainly provides a useful ambiance for Amal to get to know Manny (again) and for Manny to realise just how much he loves her. Their graceful dance back into love with each other is gentle and charming.

One thing I particularly enjoyed is that not everything is too neatly tied up by the end. The main plot points are but there are a couple elements that remain without their ‘happy ending’. That works well as those situations are never given enough exploration during the book to warrant sudden and magical resolutions.

Overall, Second Chance to Wear His Ring is a darling romance story set against a stunning backdrop. Read only if you want to smile!

I give this book 4/5 espresso shots.
