Castaways and Longer Days by Trixie Silvertale – Review

Happy Publication Day to Trixie Silvertale and her newest book Castaways and Longer Days! It’s warmed up in Pin Cherry and the action is as fun as always.

A dangerous tornado. A clever crime. Can this psychic sleuth sift through the rubble to find a murder?

Mitzy Moon longs to embrace the warmth of summer at a community-wide celebration. Enjoying a midsummer sailboat regatta, strawberry cake, and bonfires on the beach sounds divine. But when dark skies unleash a superstorm, the festivities turn deadly…

While everyone pitches in to rescue stranded friends and neighbors from the wreckage, Mitzy senses evil in the debris. Her entitled feline is missing and the handsome sheriff is in no mood for her hunches. But she refuses to buy into his black cloud of skepticism, because she’s sure one of the bodies didn’t die of natural causes.

Can Mitzy catch a killer before the clues are washed away?

Castaways and Longer Days is the fourteenth book in the hilarious paranormal cozy mystery series, Mitzy Moon Mysteries. If you like snarky heroines, supernatural misfits, and a splash of romance, then you’ll love Trixie Silvertale’s twisty whodunit.

Available on Amazon and via Kindle Unlimited.

I’m happily back in Pin Cherry and, what do you know, it’s finally summer! In the town in ‘almost Canada’ as the protagonist constantly calls it, the summer setting is all too rare. In this case, however, the summer fun turns to disaster pretty quickly when a tornado interrupts the summer solstice festival. The tornado leaves tragedy in its wake, but it’s also the perfect opportunity to cover up a crime. Or is it? With Mitzy on the case, murderers better beware.

The mystery: No one ( except maybe Jimmy) actually liked Letitia Whitecloud. She was a conniving criminal, just slick enough to evade the law and maintain her freedom. However, she crossed one too many people and someone put a knife in her back. As you can imagine, from that description, the list of potential suspects is pretty long! I loved how we see each suspect and are led to new suspects. The motives are very compelling and opportunities aren’t too hard to come by. The pace at which the narrative moves through the clues is quick enough to keep interest piqued but slow enough to absorb all the action. The big reveal was delightfully dramatic.

The characters: I feel like this story really delved a bit more into some of the emotional make-up of a couple secondary characters… especially the actual culprit. We see even more of Sheriff Erick and Mitzy together. I’d been wondering how they’d ‘work together’ to solve crimes after they ‘got together’. Turns out the good Sherriff is willing to let his girlfriend help out a lot more than expected! Mitzy’s Dad, Jacob, is also a key player in this one. He’s super dedicated to protecting his daughter and is still trying to make amends for the misdeeds of his youth.

The absolute best part of this whole book, though, is Grams!!! Silas and Mitzy work super hard to break the curse to release her. Did it work? You’ll have to read to find out. But even trapped, Grams is quite the hoot!

Overall, another try fun excursion into Pin Cherry. I give Castaways and Longer Days 4.5/5 espresso shots.
