Legally Blind Luck by James J. Cudney – Review

Ooooh, guess who has a new release out tomorrow! James’ Legally Blind Luck is set to launch on April 15. Are you up to date on the happenings at Braxton Campus?

Surprising new family members. A hidden talisman. Deadly curses. Murder. Months after tragically losing a loved one, Kellan learns his relative’s death wasn’t an accident.

Someone has discovered a cursed talisman, and a rogue government agent will stop at nothing to retrieve the heirloom. Unfortunately, it has already changed hands and found its way on campus. Moments before Braxton’s controversial art exhibition opens, Kellan stumbles upon another murder victim, and it appears he might be next on the avenger’s list.

Can Kellan protect the talisman’s true heir and prevent the killer’s nefarious plan? Given all the suspects have ties to prominent Braxton citizens, he’s uncertain whom to trust. Together, Kellan and Sheriff April are determined to solve the mystery – via legal means or blind luck.

Available on Amazon and through Kindle Unlimited.

Legally Blind Luck Review

Welcome back to Braxton where you’ll catch up with familiar folks and meet some new, interesting, crazy, (sometimes) sinister new characters.

First things first, this is not a story for the new reader. The mystery is stand alone in the sense that it’s a new one and the details are all tied up by the end. For some readers, that’s enough and they’ll get a solid mystery out of it. However, given how many characters are involved and how everyone relates to one another, I’d say this book is better suited to someone familiar with The Braxton Campus Mysteries and the key players.

Twists and turns… we’ve got loads to experience in this story! Each time you think you’ve got someone figured out, you get hit with a plot twist! It made figuring out the real killer quite tricky. Who killed Kellan’s Uncle Zach? Is it the same person who killed the agent looking into Zach’s death? And by the way, just who is that guy and what might his connections be to people at Braxton? The mystery in this one is complex with multiple layers and links where you’d never expect them. At one point, I admit, I gave up on being a successful reader-sleuth! If you’re determined to work it out before the big reveal, keep a pen and notepad handy to track the major players, their motives and their opportunities. There are a lot!

Speaking of the big reveal, it was my favourite part of the book. Those last few chapters kept me glued to my Kindle. The stakes ratcheted up, the pacing was spot-on fast and I was fully immersed and invested in figuring out who dunnit.

Another favourite for me this time around was the introduction of the Rene character. I can’t go too much into her character as I don’t want to give away anything. However, the relationships she starts, who she connects with and why are quite intriguing. I enjoyed her insane backstory and liked the different aspects of her that were revealed.

There’s a curse… maybe it’s coincidence but maybe it’s something a whole lot more. I can’t give much detail about it as it’s one of the parts you’ve got to read for yourself to understand. However, it does make us question if by truly believing in something good or bad, we can inadvertently attract those good or bad things…

Overall, I enjoyed my visit back to Braxton and hope to be back soon. I give Legally Blind Luck 4/5 fortuitous espresso shots.

  1. Good morning!

Thank you for such a stellar introduction leading into tomorrow’s release. I appreciate all your input and ideas throughout this process. It is definitely much more complicated, and I completely agree on knowing some of the characters and backstory in this one. It’s getting to be a bit of a daytime drama with all the cast! 😛

Much appreciated. And I LOVE fortuitous stars. What a fun way to describe. Have a wonderful day!!!
