Review and Blog Tour for The Viscount’s Unconventional Lady by Virginia Heath ~with Giveaway @rararesources

What a pleasure to have Virgina Heath on The Cozy Pages today. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources for my spot on the Publication Day Push for The Viscount’s Unconventional Lady.

The notorious Viscount And the most gossiped-about lady…

After years as a diplomat in the Napoleonic wars, Lord Eastwood is reluctant to return to London society. His scandalous divorce has made him infamous, not to mention cantankerous! To halt the rumour mill, he should marry a quiet noblewoman – instead it’s bold, vibrant artist, Faith Brookes, who’s caught his attention. They are the least suitable match, so why is he like a moth to a flame…?

In keeping with my love for historical romance, my second hist-fic read for 2021 was The Viscount’s Unconventional Lady… and it was another winner from Virginia Heath!

The historical aspect of this novel is quite intriguing as our fictional Lord Eastwood is a high serving diplomat under the real Lord Castlereagh who was instrumental in deafeating Napoleon in the early 1800s. Readers are treated to stories of events related to the European war, particularly an explanation of who was allied with whom and the progress Napoleon was making across France at that point. I loved reading the details told through this medium as many of them are based in historical fact. Artistic license is taken in areas where the author imagines the goings on during the strategy meetings a diplomat like Edward would have sat through.

The romance is quite compelling. Both Faith and Edward must overcome prejudices and false first impressions based on their past experiences. I enjoyed how those past experiences are very similar even if they are both so different from each other. They have both been grievously hurt by persons whom they believed themselves in love with. On the surface, they seem to have a ‘type’ as neither can ignore the initial attraction they feel but neither can they avoid noting the similarities to their past foes. Faith must uncover how Edward’s title does not define him; and Edward must understand Faith is not just another shallow beauty.

In fact, each of them is quite unique for their time. Edward, though titled, is devoted to a life of study and service to his country. He is also quick to accept the intelligence and talent of the women who surround him. He is a true gentleman, and one who is so proud he prefers to be thought a villain rather than reveal how much of a victim he is. Hurts of his past cloud his judgement and leave him to suffer a degree of anxiety not quite understood in those days. With Faith, he is able to confront, accept and overcome those difficulties.

I love Faith. I love the character portrayed by Virginia Heath. I have a soft spot for novels based on creative heroines and Ms. Heath has a whole series in store for us! Faith is an artist, one whose talent seems to know no bounds except those which her society places upon women. I love how Faith’s passion for art is exposed and how her process is described. The battle she faces for recognition is a world dominated by men is also examined.

How two very different but yet perfectly matched hearts shed the pain of their past and fins a future together is the core of this novel. I loved the chemistry between Edward and Faith. Their worlds and ambitions are vividly described and I kept swiping at my kindle excited to read what happened next!

I give The Viscount’s Unconventional Lady 4.5/5 stars.

Author Bio

When Virginia Heath was a little girl it took her ages to fall asleep, so she made up stories in her head to help pass the time while she was staring at the ceiling. As she got older, the stories became more complicated, sometimes taking weeks to get to the happy ending. Then one day, she decided to embrace the insomnia and start writing them down. Despite that, it still takes her forever to fall asleep.
