My 2020 Reading Challenges Wrap-Up

I always surprise myself by the number of wrap-up and planning posts I do at the start of the year! I think there is only one more to do after this one… my 2021 Reading Challenges. Before I get to that, however, I’d like to wrap-up last year’s challenges. They were mostly successful, even if there was one glaring fail!

For 2020, I embarked on 5 reading challenges:

  • My Kindle Klean-Up Challenge
  • The Goodreads Challenge (100 books)
  • The Historical Fiction Reading Challenge
  • The Romance Book Reading Challenge
  • My Classics Challenge

My Kindle Klean-Up Challenge

I’ll start with my Kindle Klean-Up Challenge which went well. Just the fact that I was able to go through my Kindle, find all the unread books, create a list of them and then create a challenge to go with the list, had me feeling like a shiny shilling! The icing on the cake was that I actually made it through sorting the list of books and even started reading some of the backlog. Thanks so much Misty @mistybookspace for joining with me to tackle those lists!

By the way, I’m conveniently not discussing the yet unread Kindle books I added in 2020!

Goodreads 2020 Reading Challenge

My original goal was set at 70 for 2020. But then 2020 happened and well… some months required extra escape reading! I think I finished the first 70 by July and upped the challenge number to 100.

2020 Historical Fiction Reading Challenge

2020 Historical Fiction Reading Challenge

During the following 12 months readers can choose one of the different reading levels:

20th Century Reader – 2 books
Victorian Reader – 5 books
Renaissance Reader – 10 books
Medieval – 15 books
Ancient History – 25 books
Prehistoric – 50+ books

I aimed for Medieval Reader this year. Mission Accomplished! I read 16.

From Sand and Ash by Amy Harmon

The Baker’s Daughter by Sarah McCoy

A Poisonous Journey by Malia Zaidi

When We Left Cuba by Chanel Cleeton

Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas

Deception by Gaslight by Kate Belli

Jackaby by William Ritter

A Matter of Love and Death by Carmen Radtke

The Scoundrel’s Bartered Bride by Virginia Heath

Zorro by Isabel Allende

It Happened One Autumn by Lisa Kleypas

Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas

The Price of Paradise by Susana López Rubio

The Return of the Disappearing Duke by Lara Temple

In the Time of Butterflies by Julia Alavarez

Lady Joy and the Earl by Regina Jeffers

The Romance Book Reading Challenge

I love romance stories so this challenge seemed like an easy one to sign up for. Each month the creator provided a theme and several prompts to choose from.

I was able to find one each month… and I enjoyed some prompts far more than others. I even tried a couple new sub-genres. I can definitely file this challenge as a success.

My Classics Reading Challenge

So… after all those successes mentioned above, do we really have to talk about this one? 2020 was supposed to be the year I read Don Quixote. Well… I never even bought the book, which is a whole conundrum in its own right as you have to decide which is the best translation to suit your needs. Anyway, we’ll discuss that further in the 2021 Challenges post!

So, that’s me and my 2020 reading challenges. How did you do on yours?
