Thanks very much to the lovely Rachel for my spot on the tour for Christmas at the Marshmallow Cafe by CP Ward.

When downtrodden checkout assistant Bonnie Green receives a letter from a mysterious uncle, she can hardly believe her eyes.
Gifted a hundred-year lease on a famous cafe situated in the middle of a mythical theme park, Bonnie sets off with her best friend Debbie on an adventure to a hidden valley in the Lake District where they will find new friendship, love, and happiness, all set against the magic of Christmas … and more marshmallows than they can possibly eat….

My first book by C.P. Ward and certainly not to be my last. Thankfully there are several more already waiting to delight my reading senses.
What would you do if you inherited a marshmallow cafe in a rundown themed amusement park, with no chance to sell it, and the hopes of many riding on your being a success, even though you’ve never really been any good at cooking or business? Seems a bit much to take in? Not so for our lovely heroine, Bonnie.
Bonnie has had a less than happy life and is stuck in a deadend job still fighting the financial and emotional effects of a miserable ex-husband. Despite being stuck in the doldrums, her life is what she knows and is a stable one. She has to decide if she’s willing to risk that stability for the chance to find her heart’s every happiness. I quite enjoyed the internal struggle Bonnie experiences as she makes that choice, especially as it’s quite clear her heart has already overruled her brain… Bonnie just takes a while to catch up!
Friendship is such a key theme in this story. New and old friends come into play. However, it is the super unlikely, but utterly steadfast friendship between Bonnie and Deb that steals the story. With about three decades in age separating them, people often assume these ladies are mother and daughter rather than best friends. They love each other unconditionally and each only wants what’s best for the other. Everyone needs at least one friend like that!
The Christmas element: Well… the Marshmallow Cafe is located in a Christmas themed amusement park… need I say more??? If you’re looking for a story to really put you in a festive mood, this is one you are going to want to read. The decor, the food and drink, the Christma characters, the reindeer, the sleigh ride, the (maybe not so) tenuous link to St. Nick…. all these elements combine for a wonderfully jolly read. Oh, there is a touch of romance too. It provides just the right bit of sprinkles to this beautifully frosted Christmas cake.
The story is educational too… you’ll learn about how to make real marshmallows! Check it out.
Overall, Christmas at the Marshmallow Cafe is genuinely a story about the magic of Christmas and how you never know when your life can dramatically change for the better.
