Currently Reading

Three super sweet reads this week. Keeping it all light and mostly Christmasy with a witchy cozy, regular cozy and a Christmas romance. I’ve mixed up my planned reading a little as a couple Christmas releases landed in my inbox and I had to make immediate space for them!

Cocoa Curses by Erin Johnson is being released today and is part of the Winter Witches of Holiday Haven collection. The books are all available on Kindle Unlimited. I loved Erin Johnson’s Spells and Caramels series and her Magic Market series too. So far, Cocoa Curses is proving to be another delicious hit from one of my fave authors.

Cocoa Curses by Erin Johnson

Have yourself a very Merry Witchmas in Holiday Haven, where the magic and mystery of Christmas is snow joke!

Hardworking witch, Rudie Hollybrook, adores her quaint town of Holiday Haven, located near Santa’s Workshop at the North Pole, but can’t help feeling like an outsider. Not only does she have the unique ability to see ghosts, but she also runs the Hollybrook Funeral Home with her sisters. In a town where the holiday cheer is turned up to eleven all year round, Rudie’s slightly eerie abilities make her feel like a misfit.

While volunteering at the Christmas Market days before the big celebration, Rudie witnesses a tragedy. One of the volunteer club’s chairwomen is murdered by poisonous hot cocoa, sending the charming town reeling. When Rudie’s tasked by the dead woman’s ghost to find her killer, she teams up with her crush at the local paper to do some sleuthing. Together, they uncover embezzlement, bribery and an illegal potions ring, all with ties to the murdered woman. Could it be the rebellious teenage granddaughter with a less-than-stellar taste in men? Or maybe the town doctor with a mysterious past? Rudie’s investigation even leads her to suspect her nemesis, the bully with a history of getting what she wants–no matter the cost. With the countdown to Christmas nearly at an end, and the restless spirit threatening to haunt her holiday, Rudie races to catch the cocoa killer and make her beloved town safe again.

Will Rudie unmask the culprit and prove she’s a vital member of this charming Christmas town? Or will a murderer roam free and ruin Christmas for all of Holiday Haven?

Grab your cup of cocoa, sit in a comfy chair by the cozy fire, and find out now in Cocoa Curses ! And be sure to check out the other magical mysteries of the Winter Witches of Holiday Haven series!

It’s a re-release from another favourite author, Jessica Redland. Oh my word, what a lovely story to put you right in the festive mood… umm… and definitely to give you cake cravings!!! I loved the original version of the story and I loved the updated version even more. Jessica, you are the only author to get multiple reviews of the same book out of me! Lol. So well-deserved!

It’s December on Castle Street; the fairy lights are twinkling, snow has settled and the festive season is in full swing.

For Carly, the owner of Carly’s Cupcakes, it’s the busiest time of year getting everyone’s Christmas treats ready on time. However with her clumsy sister, Bethany, as a co-worker, it’s proving a difficult task. They say you shouldn’t mix work with family. Maybe they have a point…

As Christmas approaches, Carly is also eagerly awaiting the return of her best friend to Whitsborough Bay. Liam has no idea he’s been the object of her affection since their schooldays. After years of pining after him, can Carly pluck up the courage to finally tell him how she really feels by 25th December?

Could a little festive magic make all of Carly’s wishes come true this Christmas…?

A heartwarming, short festive story of friendship and family from bestseller Jessica Redland. You can find out what happens to Carly next through exploring her best friend Tara’s story in
Starry Skies Over The Chocolate Pot Café

This is a new and updated version of Christmas at Carly’s Cupcakes which has been previously published.

Up Next

Not a Christmas tale but one that seems to be very atmospheric as well. I saw this series some time ago and meant to give it a try. The latest instalment is due to be released this month and I’ve hopped onto the blog tour. I’m looking forward to this cozy.

Change is afoot at Gwenafwy Abbey. Ten new nuns from a convent in Los Angeles join the community of Anglican sisters bringing energy, youthful enthusiasm, and more electronic equipment than Sister Agatha could have imagined. The arrival of the new nuns brings something else to the Abbey—a bit of unexpected notoriety. Claire Pennoyer, an ambitious young reporter for The Church Times, interviews the new sisters for a feature story. Murder is the last thing on anyone’s mind when Claire is found dead on the beach, her mobile phone in the sand. A tragic death, says Constable Barnes. A selfie gone bad. Meanwhile, Sister Agatha is unconvinced and puts on her detective’s hat, only to find herself in the midst of a tangled murder mystery. Her suspect list includes everyone from the new sisters to Reverend Mother to the beloved archbishop of Wales. Time is running out as Sister Agatha uncovers a shocking reality. Will she reveal the truth hidden in an ancient document before it is too late?

These are the stories filling my days at the moment.

What about you? Have you read any of these? What are you enjoying today?

  1. Aw, Nina, you’re so good to me. I’m thrilled that you’ve enjoyed the refreshed version of Christmas at Carly’s Cupcakes even more than the first. Carly’s been doing me so proud this year, gathering an amazing amount of reviews so far. She’s going to be my first book to hit 1,000 reviews/ratings on Amazon and that’s probably going to happen by the weekend. At the start of this year, my dream was to have a book that got 100 reviews so major happy dance! Thanks so much for your kind words and all your amazing support xx
