With Angel Tanner, the android that runs California’s criminal underworld, pulling the strings, PI Cassie Tam finds herself thrust into a conflict with New Hopeland’s biggest and baddest. But working with the murderous AI may be the only way that Cassie can get to the bottom of her home’s greatest mystery: What is New Hopeland City?
Available on Amazon.

The series finale of the Cassie Tam Files was just as intriguing as the others, and came within a healthy dose of Bert!
However, a little way in, there are a couple strategic reminders and new action to really grab the reader’s attention. One thing I really loved about this book is that we are never quite sure who Cassie is siding with and why. We know she’s a force for good but where exactly do her loyalties lie when she’s unsure which of her associates is fighting for better or for worse?
Matt Doyle’s creativity really shines in his creation and descriptions of the technology available in this futuristic world. From the AI personalities of Angela, Bert and Angel T to the possibilities of blood tracking and almost microscopic listening devices. This element is intriguing and fun to read.
The dialogue between the characters is sharp and realistic, serving to make the characters come alive, even more, and move the story along. Lori and Cassie are the cutest couple and I like that Lori is determined to help Cassie make peace with her past, even if it means connecting with those she’s tried to leave behind.
The book ends with a very interesting timeline which serves to inform the readers about key technological events relevant to the series and to recap major issues that came up. It’s a very fitting ending to this futuristic mystery series.
Overall, I enjoyed reading about Cassie and her world. I five Half-Light 4/5 whole-hearted espresso shots.
