J.W. over at Storeys of Stories hosts this meme.
Taken from his introduction:
First Impression Friday will be a meme where you talk about a book that you JUST STARTED! Maybe you’re only a chapter or two in, maybe a little farther. Based on this sampling of your current read, give a few impressions and predict what you’ll think by the end. Did you think you’d love and ended up hating it? Or did you think you’d hate it and wound up loving it? Or were you exactly right? I think what will really make this meme a lot of fun, is linking back to it from your review to say, “Look at how wrong I was!” OR “See? I knew it all along!”
You guys know I love Jessica Redland’s books. So of course I was quick to grab a copy of her latest book off of NetGalley… and I doubt I’ll be disappointed!
The Secret of Happiness follows three women who become friends. Chapters are thus told in alternating points of view. The first section of the book takes us from an Allison chapter, to a Danniella chapter, to a Karen chapter and back again. The first three chapters had me feeling lots of emotions. Allison made me so sad, Danniella made me feel hopeful and Karen had me excited. By the second set of three chapters, Allison’s boyfriend had me furious, Danniella had me worried and Karen made me curious. Bottom line, six short chapters in and Jessica has already pulled me into the world of these three ladies, feeling invested in them, and has me dying to know more!
This is definitely going to be 4 or 5 espresso shots! And I’m pretty sure that by the time this post is published, I’m going to be finished the book because I cannot put it down.
Have a great weekend!!!!
