Review of Cruel Sanctuary by Tara Leigh

He is the monarch of Manhattan. She is a political princess.

This is enemies-to-lovers romance at its most ruthless.

They say New York City is the Devil’s Playground.

They’re wrong.

This city belongs to me.

And so does Aislinn Granville.

She is a pampered politician’s daughter.

A decorative ornament, raised to smile and nod and do what she’s told.

Except… she doesn’t. Not with me. Ever.

In this city full of thugs and thieves, I’ve kept Aislinn safe.

From my enemies.

From me.

Until now.

Available on Amazon and through Kindle Unlimited.

I saw part-two to this one featured on Sophie’s blog recently and thought, well that looks hot and has an interesting premise too.

What do you do when you discover your father and on again off again boyfriend are really crooked politicians up to their eyeballs in with the drug cartels? Well Aislinn, doesn’t really have a chance to make that decision for herself before she’s swept up by Damon King, New York’s underworld master and Aislinn’s secret protector. Of course he’s smoking hot and the attraction is immediate.

Steamy scenes aside, this story’s characters are wonderfully conflicted and challenge each other at every turn. Aislinn’s life has been fairly sheltered, other than a horrific incident in the past that has made her determined to help women in need. Damon, however, is the epitome of the alpha anti-hero. There is light to his character but it’s hard for that light to shine against the darkness he’s more comfortable bringing to the fore. Chipping away at his layers is one of the more enticing parts of the novel.

Perhaps, Aislinn’s reaction to reading one of Damon’s texts was a bit overblown given all that she knew about his work and ‘darker side’. But it provides some incentive to move the plot along to its natural and expected cliffhanger ending.

The mysteries around who is connected to whom in the NYC underworld and how Aislinn’s and Damon’s pasts are linked are hinted at throughout the story. I expect they’ll be fully fleshed out in part 2, Corrupt Saviour.

Overall I found Cruel Sanctuary to be a sexy, fun and intriguing read. I look forward to the conclusion of the saga.

I give it 4/5 steaming espresso shots.

  1. If I stay in your blog will his jeans lower? Oh my, I am suddenly so hot… These are the abs which are meant to be licked and I get caterpillar. What tragedy… I am sure you would agree my life is filled with irony.
Let’s get to the main point… When are his trousers coming off.. Junk is all we want… Hmmm.. I want
Look, your review is good and does justice to the book and all that. But when the heat factor is so high, who cares about reading the details, I just want the trousers down.. Am I asking too much? Nopes, never

      2. I sometimes forget this is cozy babe’s blog or maybe I get overly cozy and hence my brain comes up with these comments. And Nina is absolutely not aware of these comments.. What fun… When the cat is away and all that..
Forget the cat, where is his junk? That is the most important question
