Welcome to my stop on the Blog Tour for What Took You So Long? Thank you to Digital Reads Blog Tours and Jessica Larsen for the opportunity.
Milky thought she was ready for anything, but is she ready for love?
Ready to take on the world, Milky Valdez moves to Madrid to carve out a life and a career for herself, away from the stifling help of her well-meaning, affluent parents. Still young and inexperienced with men, she is shocked when she meets Luke, her handsome, womanizing neighbor, who leads a hedonistic lifestyle as a music producer.
Despite their differences, the two strike up an unlikely friendship.
Milky’s new world changes when she overhears a conversation that leads her to make a rash decision. Giving up her virginity to a friend seems like the easy option, but when she finds out what Luke has given up for her in return, she realizes just how big a risk she’s taking.
Milky and Luke are the stars of this friends to lovers story. They’re a cute couple who face several obstacles, including themselves, in search of their happy ending. The story is set in Spain and takes a foray to the Philippines too. I could do with a vacation in a Philippine beach resort… just saying… But if you’re looking for a story to help you check off either of those geographical prompts, you can take a look at What Took You So Long. There’s romance, drama, suspense, some really unbelievable twists and turns and a happily ever after.
I have to admit there were some parts of this story that were so corny they were eye roll inducing but… they also made me smile. Kim, over at By Hook or By Book gave me a good term to describe it. It was my popcorn read for this month. It’s not a perfect story but it’s fun, short and sweet.
My favourite part of the story: Luke’s devotion to Milky. He’s got a really well-deserved playboy reputation but he has a heart of gold for the lady who finally catches his eye and heart.
Least favourite: Milky confronting Luke’s band about his whereabouts. That’s one of those over the top moments in the story.
This book is best enjoyed by those readers who don’t mind suspending belief and enjoying a happily ever after. I liked it.
I give this short, cute read 3/5 espresso shots.
