Every so often you come across a new-to-you author whose words just make you swoon and make your heart dance. That’s how Lara Temple made me feel and I’m so happy to have discovered her books and to know there is a back catalogue to work through!

Lara Temple’s writing is exquisite and her words seem to dance across the page with the beautiful images she creates. The story is racy but not raunchy and what is not said is as mesmerizing as what is. The characters, the writing and the plot deliver a story that really bring out the feels.

The two main characters are Olivia and Lucas. Lucas is the classic broody, gorgeous Lord of the manor whose rakish reputation is more veneer than truth. His layers are stripped away one by one by Olivia and it’s really hard not to like him, even when he does his best (worst) to push Olivia away. I think the evolution of his character is wonderfully done.

Olivia on the other hand is sweet, courted by the most eligible bachelors in the ton and knows her own mind. I thought her character was most endearing. She’s bright, determined, passionate and knows how to hide it when necessary. I like that the story spends much less time discussing effects on her ‘reputation’ and more time letting the reader discover that this strong heroine has her weak spots too. Her weaknesses and strengths are perfectly complemented by his. This is one match I had a brilliant time backing.

There are some parts of the plot that I felt could have done with more explanation or needed more impact to make the reader fully understand Olivia’s quest. However, enough is satisfactorily explained as to leave no pertinent questions unanswered. 

I’m so glad there are two more Sinclairs whose stories are yet to be told. I can’t wait to devour more of this Lara Temple series. 

I give this book 4.5/5 irresistible espresso shots.

Lara Temple writes strong, sexy regency romances about complex individuals who give no quarter but do so with plenty of passion. After moving around the world for her career as a financial analyst and business consultant she returned to her childhood love of making up stories, and was surprised to discover that other people don’t mind reading them.
