J.W. over at Storeys of Stories hosts this meme.
Taken from his introduction:
First Impression Friday will be a meme where you talk about a book that you JUST STARTED! Maybe you’re only a chapter or two in, maybe a little farther. Based on this sampling of your current read, give a few impressions and predict what you’ll think by the end. Did you think you’d love and ended up hating it? Or did you think you’d hate it and wound up loving it? Or were you exactly right? I think what will really make this meme a lot of fun, is linking back to it from your review to say, “Look at how wrong I was!” OR “See? I knew it all along!”

I’m well into my Christmas reads and thrilled to be enjoying them!
Christmas is approaching and love is in the air at Bay View Care Home. Supervising carer, Callie Derbyshire, is blissfully happy with new boyfriend, Rhys. The tree’s up, the lights are twinkling, and, with the Christmas Eve wedding of one of the residents, Iris, to look forward to, everything is perfect.
Well, almost.
Rhys’s ex has him at her beck and call, yet refuses to let Callie meet their baby daughter. Callie’s ex is intent on stirring up trouble. And Callie’s favourite resident, Rhys’s nanna, Ruby, hasn’t been her usual self since Iris announced her engagement.
Convinced that Ruby’s lonely, especially after discovering the truth about her lost love, Callie’s determined to give Ruby’s romantic story the happy ending it deserves. Ruby might be adamant that the past should be left in the past. But, when it comes to true love, surely a little well-meaning meddling and a Christmas wish or two can’t do any harm. After all, it’s never to late to let love in again. Or is it?
A heartwarming Christmas story of finding new love, and the courage to revisit a love that was lost long ago.
Opening Paragraph
TUESDAY 15TH NOVEMBER
I blame Ruby. If it hadn’t been for her constantly raving about how wonderful her grandson, Rhys, was, I might never have seen him in a different light and we might never have got together. So, really, I loved Ruby. She’d always been my favourite resident at Bay View Care Home where I worked (yes, yes, I know I shouldn’t have favourites), but she was now extra special because, since Rhys and I had started seeing each other two-and-a-half months previously, I can honestly say that I’ve never been happier.
‘Callie Derbyshire, are you staring at my grandson’s bottom again?’
I turned round, giggling. ‘Busted. But it’s so tempting when he’s bent down like that.’
With that gorgeous cover, charming blurb and sweet and funny opening, how could I not enjoy this one? Even better, it’s by an author I’ve been enjoying all year!
So far I’m loving what I’m reading. There’s Christmas, there’s romance, there’s working hard to make the romance last and there are long held secrets to be revealed….
I’m guessing this will be a 4 – 5 star rating. Will let you know soon enough when I take part in the blog tour later this month!
Happy Friday! What are you reading?
Yay! Thank you so much for featuring ‘Callie’s Christmas Wish’ in your lovely meme today, Nina. So glad you’re enjoying it so far. Hope the 4-5 star positive impression continues and look forward to hearing your thoughts on Callie’s blog tour.
What am I reading? ‘Christmas at The Chocolate Pot Cafe’ by Jessica Redland. Yes, I know it’s one of mine so I’m saying that tongue in cheek. I finished writing it at the weekend and am currently doing the final read-through. This is the third book I’ve finished writing in the last 6-8 weeks and, as a result, I haven’t been doing any reading other than my own work to edit and proof it. I’m very much looking forward to delving into some Christmas books by other writers starting tomorrow. First on my list is an advance copy of ‘Belle, Book and Christmas Candle’ by Sharon Booth, then ‘Finding Dad’ by Jo Bartlett. Can’t wait to be absorbing myself in someone else’s creative world instead of my own! xx

Almost at 80 percent and still loving it. Lol.
Very exciting. I’m looking forward to chocolate pot as well but I must admit the name alone makes me quite partial to it!! All the best with your final edits!
Christmas reads are just so heartwarming 😊😊

Oh the cover! 😍😍😍 Sounds like one I need to add. I’m reading Christmas By The Sea right now. It’s pretty good. Getting started a little early this year! 🎅❤

I know…. the pink and silver…. and I wouldn’t have pegged a pink cover to be Christmasy before I saw this! Lol.
I found early December was too late for my Christmas reading last year so decided early Nov instead 😂

Great first impression and opening. I love all things Christmas throw in some romance and I am in.
I shared the first line of Murder at Harbor Village on my blog. Here I will share the opening of Slay Bells Ring by Karen Rose Smith.
“Your Christmas Delight theme for staging this house is perfect, ” Sara Merriweather told Caprice De Luca on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Yet Sara’s voice held forced cheerfulness and her eyes were troubled.
Have a great weekend Nina.

I was so tempted to try Slay Bells Ring… it came up for a blog tour didn’t it? I wish I could have chosen all the Christmas ones 😊
