Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves by Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin

This meme was created by Drew @ The Tattooed Book Geek.  All you have to do to participate is pick a song that you really like and share it on Monday.

Talk about two powerhouses… Aretha Franklin and Annie Lennox.  This 1985 song was regarded as a ‘modern’ feminist anthem and features some very empowering lyrics, especially for that time:

Now this is a song to celebrate
The conscious liberation of the female state!
Mothers, daughters and their daughters too.
Woman to woman
We’re singin’ with you.
The inferior sex got a new exterior
We got doctors, lawyers, politicians too.
Everybody, take a look around.
Can you see, can you see, can you see
There’s a woman right next to you.

“Remember how far you’ve come, not just how far you have to go. You are not where you want to be, but neither are you where you used to be.”― Rick Warren

Have a great week everyone.
