Everyone is shocked when Clare Ulster leaves her rich and handsome fiancé, chucks her well-to-do Milwaukee city life, and moves into her grandparents’ old homestead in the remote Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The quiet small town of Iron City is just what she needs to get her life in order and learn to stand on her own. No men needed!

Unfortunately, disaster follows her. Unable to let her go, her abusive, cheating ex- fiancé finds his way to the U.P. and sets out to make Clare’s life more of a living hell then he’d done in the past. Additionally, Clare’s alleged involvement with the Fire Chief, aka, town player, lands her in a world of trouble with his ring of female admirers, sending her on a dangerously chaotic adventure including murder and kidnapping. With Clare’s life in danger, irresistible Police Chief Jack Ricco will do whatever it takes to keep their newest resident safe.

Will Clare and Jack be able to survive the deceptively peaceful Iron City? (Goodreads)

This week I’m featuring Taken by Surprise by Valerie J Clarizio.  I won this some time towards the end of last year but haven’t been able to read it as yet.  It looks like a pretty intriguing romantic suspense and is another of the books on my Beat the Backlist challenge.  I’m falling a bit behind on this challenge so I’ve really got to get started back on that list soon!

Happy Monday.  Wishing you a great week ahead.

  1. The cover is kind of boring and looks like your everyday run of the mill romance. I probably wouldn’t have picked it up. But reading the description it sounds really cool! This is why you shouldn’t read judge a book by the cover!!

  2. I agree, I often judge a book by its cover, but this description certainly makes it sound good. I also have some books I won that I have not read yet. I need to get back to them too.
